An architect and urbanist, Martin Probst is a strong integrator of both fields, and a successful leader of redevelopment projects in Europe and internationally. Born in Germany, Probst studied architecture in Munich, and urbanism at the Bauhaus University in Weimar. His early work as an architect included private houses, commercial buildings and schools, after that he made the step into urban scale, working on complex ensembles and masterplans.

Urban Editing

Most of Probst’s work is about the transformation of existing cities. This means dealing with complex existing situations and engaging with people already involved locally. Key questions are often how to kickstart transformation and how to frame initiatives for development. Rather than urban planning, he thinks of this as ‘urban editing’.

Mixed Scales

Throughout his career, Probst chooses to work on different scales ranging from regional urban projects to detailed architectural designs. This wide-ranging knowledge allows him to successfully lead ambitious urban and architectural commissions from concept design all the way to implementation.

Collaborative Consultancy

Probst believes that success can only be achieved through direct collaboration with local experts. He has established ‘collaborative consultancy’ as an interactive way to work with clients and stakeholders and as an effective methodology to give targeted advice on complex projects.
