HKDI Gallery Exhibition: "Ma Yansong: Landscapes in Motion"

In collaboration with Shenzhen Museum of Contemporary Art and Urban Planning (MOCAUP) and the renowned architect Ma Yansong's Architecture firm, the MAD Architects, the “Ma Yansong: Landscapes in Motion” exhibition aims to comprehensively explore Ma Yansong's most representative urban architectural projects over the past two decades. This exhibition not only reveals Ma's thought-provoking concepts and imaginative vision but also provides a glimpse into the future of urban civilization, showcasing a harmonious coexistence between urban landscapes, history, and the natural environment.
This exhibition is honoured by founder, and principal partner of MAD Architects (MAD) - an architectural collective, MA Yansong, as he exclusively curated his first-ever large-scale solo exhibition in Hong Kong here at HKDI Gallery.
MA believes that all human-made objects, from tools to art, are externalizations of the human spirit.
His philosophy is infused into and seen among major projects and impressive renovations of MA Yansong and the MAD team, that explore the breadth of MAD’s projects across the globe;The exhibition showcases original hand-drawn design concept sketches of the projects. Bridging the past and future, MA’s works present buildings as not only a static structure, but also as an organic and vivid art form, evoking thoughts about the relationship between architecture, art and nature. In addition, the exhibition highlights MAD’s mission to create spaces that serve as a conduit to explore cultural life. Through the exhibition experience, MA prompts audiences to probe the inner self while observing the dynamic, diverse, and fluid cultural landscape of contemporary society.

During the exhibition period, public engagement programmes, including guest-led guided tours and experiential workshops led by local architectural designers Simon CHAN and Dennis CHEUNG, artist Margaret CHU, and HKDI speaker from the Department of Architecture, Interior & Product Design (AIP) will be held to foster the public’s awareness and imagination of design.
